Ranking In J.D Power and Associates Study for Second Straight Year
FLIPPIN, Ark. (August 30, 2002) – For the
second straight year, Ranger Boats ranks highest among bass boat companies in
customer satisfaction in the recently released J.D Power and Associates annual
Boat Competitive Information StudySM.
Based on responses from nearly 12,000 2001-model year boat owners, the study
provides detailed evaluations of quality and customer satisfaction in several
product categories. Ranger received five out of a possible five Power
Circles in every category on the J.D. Power Consumer Center Ratings
(www.jdpower.com). The J.D. Power Consumer Center categories were Overall
Rating, Quality and Reliability, Value for Money, Ride and Handling, Exterior
and Features.
“Customer satisfaction continues to be the number one goal of every one of our
employees,” Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper said. “Receiving the
highest bass boats ranking in the J.D. Power and Associates marine study in the
two years it’s been conducted demonstrates our commitment to achieving that
goal.”
“Ranger’s ‘Signature Quality’ methodology runs deep within the
organization, emphasizing continuous improvement and the highest possible
quality,” Hopper said. “As we begin our 35th year as a company in
2003, our emphasis will remain on exceeding our customer’s expectations.”
J.D. Power and Associates is a global marketing information firm that conducted
the consumer Boat Competitive Information Study independently. Respondents were
actual boat owners who purchased 70 different brands of bass boats, runabouts,
coastal fishing boats, express cruisers, pontoon
boats and ski/wakeboard boats.
Ranger Boats, headquartered in Flippin, Ark., is the nation’s largest

Ranger® and NASCAR Form a Winning
Partnership for Fishing and Racing Fans
|
2002 Daytona 500 Champion Ward Burton and 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Bobby Labonte To Be Featured Spokespersons NASCAR Professional Fishing Team To Compete In National Events Flippin, Arkansas (July 4, 2002) -- The premier names in fishing and U.S. motorsports have joined in a partnership that combines two classic American pastimes in a way not seen before. Ranger Boats® and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) have entered into a multi-year agreement resulting in two custom-designed, high-performance, limited-series Ranger/NASCAR bass boat packages, in addition to other promotional marketing opportunities. 2002 Daytona 500 Champion Ward Burton and 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Bobby Labonte, both avid outdoors enthusiasts, will be featured as spokespeople for the Ranger/NASCAR limited-series boats. "We believe this relationship makes a great deal of sense for both Ranger and NASCAR," Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper said. "NASCAR is the number one spectator sport in America with a loyal fan base of more than seventy-five million fans and research shows that a large percentage of these fans are spending their free time fishing. And because NASCAR fans and fishing enthusiasts tend to be passionate about their favorite pastimes, they incorporate them as part of their lifestyle. For that reason, this new relationship is a great way for our customers to demonstrate their affinity for both of their passions at the same time." A recent Simmons National Consumer Survey found that NASCAR fans are nearly twice as likely as non-fans to have gone boating or fishing in the past twelve months. In addition, NASCAR fans are nearly twice as likely to own fishing equipment. "It has always been important for NASCAR to form relationships with partners we feel have the highest-quality products and most appeal to our fans," said NASCAR Vice President of Licensing and Strategic Marketing Steve Boguski. "There is no better known or respected name in the fishing industry than Ranger Boats. And any NASCAR fan that is an avid fisherman would be proud to own one of these limited-series boats." The Ranger/NASCAR limited series boats will come in two models and two different color packages. Consumers will have the option to "dress out," in NASCAR style, either the new 2003 Ranger 19-foot 519VX or 21-foot 521VX bass boat packages. "The boats will be very special in many aspects," Hopper said. "The limited series boats will include a performance component package complete with foot throttle and hydraulic engine lift. The Ranger/NASCAR limited series boats represent the ultimate total performance package Ranger has to offer. Beyond our Signature Quality promise each boat hull will be individually honed to exacting tolerances." Each boat will also be built with custom paint schemes and exterior decal and design options. These options include custom seats (both bench and pedestal), a unique Ranger/NASCAR logo carpet inlay, console emblems, side decals and trailer fairings. And each boat will include a plaque bearing the name of the purchaser. In addition to the limited series boat, several other Ranger/NASCAR promotions are planned. An elite, hand-picked NASCAR pro-fishing team will be competing in some of the nation's leading fishing events using their limited series boats and matching apparel. Future promotions will also be developed to tie NASCAR fan's affinity for fishing. Ranger Boats, headquartered in Flippin, Ark., is the nation's largest manufacturer of premium fiberglass fishing boats, including a series of bass, multi-species and saltwater boats. Ranger Boats is announcing a new “partners in fishing” program with Chevy Trucks, which has produced a matching rig comprised of a Limited Series Chevy Silverado pickup, Ranger Comanche 520DVX boat (or Multi Species 620 model) and RangerTrail trailer.
“We are proud that a company with Chevy’s national esteem has chosen Ranger Boats to participate in this partnership that is very unique to the industry,” Ranger President Randy Hopper said. “Our customers are very passionate about their boats and tow vehicles. The Limited Series package gives them a way to express this pride.”
The specially equipped Silverado, Comanche (or Multi Species model) and RangerTrail trailer will carry exclusive coordinating features and select color schemes. Special Chevy/Ranger graphics highlight the seats, carpets, fenders and windows of both the Silverado and Comanche. The matching rig is being offered as a Limited Series combination and is available individually or as a total package at participating Ranger and Chevy dealerships.
The 520DVX Comanche is considered the “flagship” of the Ranger fleet. The 92 ½-inch wide beam on the Comanche is positioned farther forward to create a front deck larger than any other similarly sized rig. With an integrated 15-inch engine set-back, large rod storage, trademarked Sea Star Pro steering system and high performance seating, the 520 is considered tournament ready and receives Ranger’s special “VX” high performance seal.
The Limited Series Comanche (and Multi Species model) will carry the color upgrade and logo enhancements. It will also have a special fiberglass trailer fairing that will match the trailer fenders.
“This Limited Series combination rig reflects the commitment that both Ranger and Chevy have to their customers,” Chevy Trucks Brand Promotions Manager Jeff Haag said. “Both companies have been instrumental in promoting fishing throughout the U.S. and this partnership shows our continued commitment to the outdoorsman.”
Features on the Limited Series Silverado include a monochromatic grill, wheel upgrade, customized running boards, Limited Series custom graphics package and embroidered headrests and floor mats. The dash will also carry a plaque noting the number sequence of each vehicle in the series.
Details on the Limited Series rig are available at participating Ranger Boats and Chevy Truck dealers.

Ranger
Boats was founded in 1968 by Forrest L. Wood and is the premier manufacturer of

Ranger Maintains Its Focus On Fishing.
Due to the recent scheduled roll-out of the World Championship Fishing (WCF) Series
sanctioned by B.A.S.S., combining racing and fishing, Ranger Boats will cease all
negotiations to renew their official B.A.S.S. sponsorship. Although Ranger plans to
fulfill all existing obligations under their current agreement, they believe the WCF
concept is not in the best long-term interest of the sport or of the safety and well-being
of the fishing community. As a result, Ranger has decided against participating in the WCF
or any similar activity.
Citing conflicts with the direction WCF is taking bass fishing, Ranger President Randy
Hopper said, "The WCF is an obvious change in strategy by B.A.S.S. management. For
over a quarter of a century, Ranger and B.A.S.S. have shared philosophies with regard to
the future and growth of bass fishing. Working together, both have been instrumental in
the implementation and adoption of many key initiatives that are commonplace today in
promoting conservation and boating safety. With WCF, emphasis has been taken off fishing
and placed on racing."
Case in point - the made-for-TV BASS Quest held last August on Rend Lake in Illinois.
Unlike ordinary tournaments, BASS Quest combined traditional bass fishing with boat
racing. In the racing segment, anglers were timed as they raced their boats over an
unorthodox watercourse featuring long straight-aways and narrow
twists, turns, and switchbacks. In direct contradiction with WCF, Ranger feels bass
tournaments do not need to add racing to the format to create more excitement, and does
not agree with changing the fundamentals of the sport for the sole reason of appealing to
a larger TV audience. Noted Hopper, "We feel there is nothing wrong
with thinking 'outside the box' to grow the sport. We do, however, have a problem with
this concept that changes the essence of the sport. As one angler stated, just imagine a
golf tournament where 60% of one's total score was based on a round of golf and 40% was
based on racing a modified golf cart through a planned race course. We believe fishing in
and of itself is exciting and is on the rise, with its best days ahead.
We don't have anything against racing in its proper context, we
just feel there is no place for it in bass fishing. Fishing and tournament fishing are
wholesome sports, good for the family and good for the country."
Ranger Vice President of Marketing, Bart Schad voiced his concerns, saying, "Frankly,
the WCF promotes unsafe boating practices. Especially at risk are the young and
impressionable. They see the pros racing and
performing these extreme maneuvers and think it's all right for them to do likewise on
open public waterways." Added Schad, "The promotion of racing and the
glamorizing of irresponsible driving is a recipe for disaster. "
Commented Hopper, "Ranger has always prided itself on manufacturing the best quality
fishing boats possible, cutting no corners - with safety, stability and fishability in the
forefront. We have built our company on these principles and firmly believe that a
departure from our foundation to place an emphasis on racing would prove to be a
significant disservice and disappointment to our customers. At Ranger, our customers come
first."
Ranger Boats, headquartered in Flippin, Arkansas, is the nation's largest manufacturer of
premium fiberglass fishing boats, including a line of more than 40 freshwater boats, and a
popular saltwater series. With emphasis
on building the best boats in the world, Ranger Boats is still building legends...one at a
time.

Ranger Boats Receives First Protection Under The Law.
ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THE RANGER LEGEND...
Wood Manufacturing Company, maker of Ranger Boats, has accepted
the honor of receiving the first-ever "Protected Design" copyright
registration from the U.S. Government.
Register of Copyrights Marybeth Peters remarked, "For the
first time in U.S.
history there is federal protection for industrial hull
designs." She even signed the original document at the ceremony, a rare occurrence,
because she felt the event held greater than usual significance for
industrial copyright protection.
Ranger Boats
president Randy Hopper was presented the copyright
certificate at a special ceremony in the Thomas Jefferson Building in
Washington, D.C. This is the first copyright registration of a hull design for
any manufacturer. According to Hopper, "We believe
the honor of being chosen as the first to receive a copyrighted hull design helps validate
the way Ranger owners feel about their boats." Issued under the Vessel
Hull Design Protection Act, the certificate protects the Ranger 522VX
Comanche hull design.
This copyright registration paves the way for manufacturers to
"reassure customers they are purchasing an original design," said
Hopper, "and will give all manufacturers more confidence to make stronger
investments in research and development."
Ranger

nation's largest manufacturer of premium quality fishing boats, including a line
