31 Pros and 23 Ams found fishing tough on Lake of the Ozarks, the wind died down Saturday but the cold front moving through made fishing even tougher. Kevin Stonitsch, from Camdenton, MO, won first place on the Pro side in the BWSTA Pro-Am Classic tournament held on October 27-28, 2001 at Temple Resort & Marina. Kevin, was on a good bite, going into the first day of the tournament and at the end of the first day, Kevins fish moved and he only ended up with 1 fish for .95 Lbs. Kevin, changed fishing locations and found fish hitting black/red flakes tube baits, flippin boat docks, from the 17 mile marker to the 8 mile marker in about 5 feet of water. Kevin weighed in 4 fish the second day for 9-43 Lbs giving him 10-38 Lbs to take the lead and win a $10,000.00 Ranger 118 Cherokee Bass Boat and $500.00 in bonus money. Kevin also had second big bass of the tournament winning an additional $125.00 for his 3-20 Lb bass. Kevin is 40 years old and is a carpenter and is sponsored by Jadico Lures in Camdenton, MO. 2nd place Pro winner Greg West, from Lake Ozark, MO, weighed in a total of 5 fish for 9-04 Lbs, winning $2,150.00. Greg weighed in 1 fish the first day and almost dropped out for the second day, Ryan talked him into staying and fishing. Greg found fish using shallow running crankbaits, fishing around the 1-6 mile marker in about 2-5 feet of water. Greg is 42 years old and is an insurance salesman. Charger, Yamaha, Martys Marine and Gold Rule Insurance sponsor him. 3rd place Pro winner Bill Klutts, from Fulton, MO, a 41 year old pipefitter found fish using Norman Deep Little N crankbaits, shad/purple/black colored on windy rocky banks working the best. Bill, fished in the Little Niangua arm in about 6-10 feet of water, weighing in 2 fish each day for a total of 4 fish for 7-92 Lbs winning $500.00. Charger, Eberlins Boats & Motors, Yamaha, Bonard Big Bass Lures, Eveready Outdoors and his wife sponsor Bill. Dale Carver, from Marthasville, MO weighed in the biggest bass of the two-day tournament for 4-18 Lbs winning $250.00. 1st place Am winner Joe Short, from St Charles, MO, won his second BWSTA Pro-Am Classic, two years in a row, weighing in 3 fish for 5-16 Lbs. Joe won a Mercury Outboard, from Nameoki Village Marine, worth $1,500.00 and $200.00 in bonus money. Joe used Bandit shad colored crankbaits, fishing main lake points in about 8 feet of water around the 24-mile marker. Joe is 38 years old and is a machinist and is sponsored by Bass World Sports and Buds Texaco. 2nd place Am winner Dave Moon, from St Peters, MO, weighed in 2 fish for 4-62 Lbs winning $700.00. Dave caught his fish on pumpkin seed colored Chompers and white spinnerbaits, fishing from the dam to the 45 mile marker in about 16 feet of water in two days of fishing. Dave is 41 and is an IT Analyst. 3rd place Am winner Steve Earle, from St Louis, MO, weighed in 1 fish during the two days of fishing. His 3-75 Lb bass was good enough for third place worth $300.00 and $160.00 for the largest bass weighed in the amateur side, winning him $460.00. Steve used a Norman purple/chart colored crankbait fishing in the Grand Glaize arm of the lake in about 10 feet of water. Steve is 27 and a sales rep and is sponsored by Bass World Sports. Ken Master on the Amateur side on a $700.00 MotorGuide trolling motor. 19 Pros and 11 Ams weighed in 60 fish for 113.36 Lbs. Lake level 659+, water temp 51-55, weather clear skies and around mid 60s.
